Home Remedies tips for Sunburn

Do you remember the last time you got sunburned? Your skin was probably inflamed and dry and you did not know what to do to make it better. Also, what you may not know is the fact that sunburn and prolonged exposure to the sun rays will increase the risk of developing skin cancer. In this post we are going to learn about a few hacks and home remedies for sunburn.

What is sunburn

What Is Sunburn

Sunburn is a type of skin damage caused by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays. Sunburned skin becomes red, painful, hot, and sensitive. Sometimes this will last for a week. Usually, after a sunburn, the skin will peel for a few days.

Before we go to treatments, it is worth noting that using a suitable sunscreen will protect you from sunburn and its complications. So, try not to be exposed to the sun without sunscreen on. But if you get sunburned, do not worry, there are ways and home remedies for sunburn that will help you recover as quickly as possible.

How to Treat Sunburn Fast

Milk

Immersing the skin in milk has a beneficial effect in treating sunburn. Remember, you should use cold milk. Milk fat and its proper pH are especially useful for healing sunburn.

If you do not have enough milk to fill a container to put your face in, you can first place a small, clean towel in a bowl of cold milk so that it is completely soaked in the liquid, then gently, leave the towel on your sunburned skin.

With the help of milk, a protein layer will be created on your skin. This layer reduces heat, pain and sensitivity caused by sunburn damage.

Vaseline

Sunburn severely damages the skin and affects the function of its protective barrier. As a result, the skin loses water. When you get sunburned, it is especially important to keep your skin fully hydrated and moisturized. Because moisture ameliorates the pain and accelerates the healing process of sunburnt skin.

A great trick is to refrigerate the Vaseline for a few minutes until it is really cold. Cold reduces the severity of sunburn and relieves your pain. Vaseline will also restore the protective layer of your skin and speed up its recovery and repair process.

Oatmeal

One of the worst side effects of sunburn is excessive itching of the skin. This is while the skin is flaking and if you steam it, it will get worse. Bathing with lukewarm water, however, is one of the best home remedies for sunburn, which soothes severe itching and relieves skin burns. Pour one or more cups of ground oatmeal into the bath water and mix it with your hands. Then, sit in the tub for 15 to 20 minutes.

Oatmeal absorbs moisture and retains it. This way, it helps to moisturize the skin. In addition, oatmeal has compounds that relieve inflammation, burning and itching of the skin.

If you do not have a bathtub, you can mix some semolina with water in a bucket and pour it gradually and slowly on the sunburned areas of your body.

Yoghurt

We have all heard of the healing power of aloe vera gel, but don't worry if you do not have aloe vera handy. You will find many ingredients in your kitchen that are good substitutes for aloe vera and have a pronounced effect when treating sunburn at home.

Thick yogurt is a quick cooling and moisturizing agent for the skin. You can use it topically to treat sunburn. In addition, the antibacterial properties of yogurt prevent infection in the parts of the skin that you cannot stop itching and can also help in acne treatment.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar works wonders in treating sunburns and skin rashes. This remarkable home remedy is an antifungal and antiseptic liquid that you can use in order to detoxify the skin.

You can simply apply a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar on the sunburned areas of your skin. You can do this using a cotton ball. Apple cider vinegar disinfects and cleans the damaged part of your skin. It also hydrates your skin by restoring its natural pH.

Honey

Organic honey is a natural salve for treating sunburn. Studies show that honey may work better than some antibiotic creams and ointments, speeding up the healing process of the skin, reducing infection, and minimizing pain.

Baking Soda

A Baking soda bath is one of the best home remedies for sunburn. You might think that a baking soda bath is a bit harsh on your skin, but it actually works great and improves itchy and inflamed skin. Just put a pinch or two of baking soda in lukewarm water in the bathtub. Then, soak your skin in it until the water cools down.

Cucumber

Cucumber can be used as an anti-inflammatory agent. That is why we normally use it to remove puffiness from our eyes. Cucumber contains natural antioxidants that have a pain-relieving effect.

Blend two cool cucumbers and make a paste. Apply the mashed cucumber to any burned or scaly area to relieve inflammation and pain and speed up healing sunburn.
